Salisbury Steak with Mushroom Gravy (like in the image)
Ingredients
For the steak patties
- 500 g (1 lb) ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1 tbsp oil (for frying)
For the mushroom gravy
- 2 tbsp butter
- 200 g (7 oz) mushrooms, sliced
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 2 tbsp flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt & pepper, to taste
- Optional: chopped parsley for garnish
To serve
- Creamy mashed potatoes (or rice)
Instructions
1. Make the patties
- In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, onion, egg, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and paprika.
- Shape into thick oval or round patties (like steaks).
2. Cook the patties
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Brown patties for 4–5 minutes per side until well-seared.
- Remove patties and set aside.
3. Prepare the mushroom gravy
- In the same pan, melt butter.
- Add mushrooms and onions; sauté until soft and lightly golden.
- Sprinkle flour over mushrooms and stir for 1 minute.
- Slowly pour in beef broth, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
- Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Simmer until thick.
4. Combine & simmer
- Return patties to the skillet.
- Spoon gravy over them.
- Cover and simmer on low heat for 10–15 minutes until patties are juicy and fully cooked.
Serve
Plate the Salisbury steaks over mashed potatoes and pour extra mushroom gravy on top. Garnish with parsley
